Yesterday, I embarked in a first for me. My very first Green baby Fair held at the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami. Let me just say that "Crunchy" and "Granola" have become more enticing than just a tasty snack. I have recently learned that these are the "new/newer" terms used for people who are aware of the earth and their bodies. I would have just referred to them as "Hippies" but I am learning that a whole new generation exists with new nicknames attached. I LOVE this! Not all the nicknames, but these people. Moms, dads, business women, entrepreneurs, chiropractors etc. They all have one common denominator. An awareness for our number one Mother, Mother Earth! I attended the Fair with Lindsay @ You Are The Roots.
Our first stop was at the dÅTERRA booth. A booth filled with intoxicating Essential Oils that just make you feel good with every inhale. Helen Alspaugh, an Independent Product Consultant, was on hand to show and let us sample one of their best products, in my opinion. A hand sanitizer that doesn't sting, and smells of cinnamon pine cones, used with one of their proprietary blends - On Guard. It took a little longer to absorb but once it did my hands were left with that wonderful cinnamon scent. All Natural! No added anything. Pure Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary combined with Aloe made this hand sanitizer a must have on my list.
Another Booth that really got me excited was the Ava Anderson booth. This is a product that is streamlining towards BIG change. While attending their "Eat My Shampoo" workshop, Lindsay and I learned of all the toxic crap in almost everything we, well I use in my house. I am sure Lindsay has less, though no doubt left this workshop just as informed as I. This company launched in 2009 by a young girl who had the resources and the know how to begin her research to formulate a product that is safe and TRULY good for it's consumers. This began as a product and branched out into a full line of different products for the home, your household pets, your babies and even make-up. What I love most about this company, besides the fact it is founded and ran by women. It is a company with true integrity. Ava Anderson does not just want to sell her products and make a quota. She wants you to be aware and have a knowledge of the horrible ingredients in the items you may be using. She wants you to take better care of yourself, your home and your well being. This company backs its products with a 30-day refund but also takes the revenue it receives to divulge into further testing of their products. They aim to create a mass product line one item at a time, stopping and launching new products only when all tests have come back negative for toxins and chemicals that could potentially harm their consumers. With no marketing gimmicks, true integrity, some multi-functional products and independent consultants, like Katy LeVasseur, with whom we had the pleasure of meeting, who are passionate about this product line. All I can say is, "Eat My Shampoo?" "Yes, Please!"
The Fair as a whole was nicely put together and very organized. Tables were set up at the entrance with greeters giving you your wrist band and information packet. VIP members received a swag bag, and coolers with water were provided at the main gate. Inside the center they held several different Workshops for anyone to attain more specific information on a product they may have been interested in. The outer portion was aligned with booth by booth under a tent, there was a complimentary services being provided in a Mommy Spa Lounge. The whole Fair was cultivated by The Gathering Place, which is a pregnancy childbirth and parenting resource center. They sure know how to put on a gathering. They even were equipped with a Tot Play Area and a Nursing Nook. You know with my littlest addition, I had to stop by that Nursing Nook. I was happy to see they had a representative, Alanna, giving out Cookies. Yum! Not just any cookie though, Cookies to help boost Breast Milk Production. Now, fortunately I do not NEED these, but I recently did a trial of another cookie from a baker launching a similar prototype and was interested in the comparison. The cookie was called Milkin Cookies, it was an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie made with oatmeal, flaxseed, wheat germ, and whole wheat flour. Ingredients that the whole family can enjoy. It really was tasty, and unlike the last one I tried, was soft. I prefer my cookies to be softer. I would recommend these babies to any mother who may need that extra help.
I have been searching high and low for a bow for my little one for Halloween. Not hard, right? Well...to find a red one that fits her and isn't ungodly expensive posed as a bit of a challenge for me. Then we ran into this little booth, Bundle of Fun Embroidery Too. What did they have...not just a bow for my baby Starr, but something much more useful. They sell headbands and bows that have a clip on them to attach to the headband. Perfect! Your headband has now become universal for any color, size, style bow you want to adhere to it. So simple and so great! Finally Starr's Halloween costume is complete.
Before heading out I treated myself to eyebrow threading, compliments of Miami Brow Bar, a Miami local Mobile Service provided by Leslie Da Silva. She was so sweet and finished up her day with me. I was so happy that she didn't cut the line off beforehand. She does house, office and even parties. I began threading a few years ago and really once you start you'll never go back. Waxing eyebrows....What is that?
The day was informative, relaxing, and an eye opener. I left my first Green Baby Fair with more insight into what changes I would like to make for myself and my family. I saw many mommies, and daddies, children, babies, women with carriers, nursing mommies, pregnant mommies, and information being distributed and absorbed by so many different individuals. I was informed by booth after booth. I left happy and more aware than when I arrived. Although Lindsay and I missed out on complimentary services from the Mommy Spa Lounge, we had a good afternoon and finished with my favorite thing to do..Eat!
